Book Review: Lock-In (Perfectly acceptable)

A moderately formulaic police procedural based in a fascinating, post-apocalyptic world. Scalzi takes a pandemic, Artificial Intelligence and RoboCop and fuses them into a fast paced, gripping read that, while predictable, creates a wholly realized world that resonates and entertains. Drawing on much that has preceded it, Scalzi still creates interesting and well-developed characters and places them in a world that the reader can relate to even as it is vastly different than ours. Thoroughly enjoyable even as it narrowly avoids being too derivative. 3 stars.
